Solving Equasions

Today I will teach you how to do equations. Say the equation is 20W=340. You first have to ask what is being done to my variable? In this case it is being multiplied. You then would have to do the inverse operation(opposite) to both sides of the equation, which would be dividing it. Then you would write out your answer, which would be W=17.

Checking Your Answer

To check your answer you have to rewrite the equation 20W=340. Then you would plug in your answer, 20 x 17=340. Then you would simplify 340=340. Then you would write what your variable equaled, W=17

Vocabulary

The multiplication property of equality is the property that states that if you multiply both sides of an equation by the same number the new equation will have the same solution.

The division property of equality is, the property that states that if you divide both sides of an equation by the same nonzero number, the new equation will have the same solution.

Factors and Greatest common factors

A factor is a number that divides evenly with another number such as 7 and 42. For example 7 goes into 42 6 times.

Now I will demonstrate how to find factors, list factors, and find the greatest common factor. Lets say the number is 54. To find the multiple you have to find what numbers divide in to it evenly. The multiples would be 1,54,2,27,3,18,and 6,9.the greatest common factor would be 6, 9 because, if you tried any other number, it either doesn't divide evenly or it goes backwards, for example 9,6.
